About the Faroese Pelagic Organisation

The Faroese Pelagic Organisation was established on October 15, 1976, with the primary objective of uniting Faroese shipowning companies engaged in purse seine and pelagic fisheries. The association's principal mandate is to safeguard and secure optimal operational, harvesting, and landing conditions for the pelagic fleet.

Structural Organization

The association comprises six member companies operating under three primary corporate groups:

• Christian í Grótinum
• Varðin
• Framherji

The active operational fleet consists of seven vessels:

• Christian í Grótinum
• Norðborg
• Tróndur í Gøtu
• Finnur Fríði
• Gøtunes
• Fagraberg
• Høgaberg

The fleet targets mackerel, Norwegian spring-spawning herring, autumn-spawning herring, blue whiting, and capelin. Fishing rights are structured through individual vessel quotas, with operations conducted across Faroese, Icelandic, Norwegian, British, and international waters.

Fishery Negotiations & Administration

Felagið Nótaskip is headed by a Director responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the association. The role involves representing the membership's collective interests before regulatory authorities and monitoring political and economic developments in the fisheries sector.

The association actively participates in international and bilateral fisheries negotiations, maintaining ongoing dialogue with governmental bodies and partner organizations across multiple jurisdictions.
